Blogging is one of the hottest trends on the Internet. It is about creating a blog or weblog, which consists of frequently updated journal entry style posts on a webpage. Search engines love blogs since they are frequently updated and provide fresh and new content – which is exactly what searchers are looking for.

They come in all flavors, from online diaries that are mainly shared with friends and family, to money making business blogs, and blogging is the most effective and inexpensive way to creating traffic and making money from.

You can start a blog for free which is obviously a good choice if you don’t have much money. There are hundreds or thousands of free blog websites to choose from, such as:

Blogger.com
Wordpress.com
TypePad.com

LiveJournal.com

However, there are a few things to consider before choosing between a free or paid blog sites.

Advantages of Free Blog Sites:

  • It is free
  • Easy to set up and maintain
  • Ideal for people who just want personal journals
  • Hosting is maintained by the free blog service

Disadvantages of Free Blog Sites:

  • Little customer support
  • Limited control over the Ad space on your blog
  • Little control over the look and feel of your blog
  • The domain name will be: JohnDoe.freeblogsite.com

Here below are a few paid blog services:

Wordpress.org – the best blogging software!
Movabletype.com

Textpattern.com

Expressionengine.com

Advantages of Paid Blog Sites:

  • You can use any domain name you want, like JohnDoe.com
  • You have full control over the design of your blog site
  • Unlimited ways to monetize your blog with Ads, Banners etc.
  • 24/7 Customer support

Disadvantages of Paid Blog Sites:

  • You need to buy your own domain name
  • You need to pay for the hosting of your domain
  • Slightly more complicated to set up and maintain than free blogs

If you are serious about building an online business, your best choice would be to set up a blog, rather than designing your own website from scratch. Why do I say that? Because if you have your own domain, hosted at a reliable hosting company, you can use an included service to install a blog on your website, which provides you with endless possibilities, but more on that later.

If you know Cpanel, which is the web-hosting’s control panel, setting up a blog is rather easy, but if you don’t know Cpanel, here is a website that offers free Cpanel tutorials. I just came across Mike Filsaime’s Word Press Cloner, I wish I had found it sooner! Everything Mike Filsaime does is high quality stuff. The Word Press Cloner eliminates the work that involves setting up a Wordpress blog. If you are in a hurry, or if you don’t want to get too involved with the mysteries of Cpanel, I highly recommend the Word Press Cloner.

And if you just want a blog to share news with your family and friends, by all means use the free ones, as you don’t have to pay anything to use them. But if you want to use your blog for your Internet Business, and you don’t know much about web design, SEO, or all the other gibberish of the online world, Wordpress is probably your best choice, as you have full control over the design of your website. There are thousands of themes and plugins you can install on your blog for free.
