Any of us that have a website on the Internet are going to be interested in getting plenty of traffic to it. This is the case whenever it comes to multi-million-dollar websites that are getting thousands of people on them per day to smaller websites that simply want to have a voice somewhere on the Internet. To these people, regardless of who they are, this traffic is going to be something that is very important.
One of the most important things that needs to be considered whenever you’re trying to get this traffic are the keywords that you’re going to use order to get it. After all, if you choose the right keywords you can receive a ton of traffic as a result but if you choose keywords at random, you will more than likely be unhappy with the results that you get.
The first thing that needs to be done is you need to compile a list of keywords that people are actually searching for. The first place that you should do this is through the Google external keyword tool, a free tool that is used by many webmasters for this very purpose. Begin by using a few seed key words that will populate the list of expanding keywords that you can choose from. Save all of these to a text file.
After you do this, you will probably be able to identify a number of different keywords that you had not even considered before. What you need to do is to continue to do searches using the Google keyword tool with these various synonyms that your found. This will help you to expand the keyword list considerably and to do so using phrases that are going to pull in quite a bit of traffic.
Once you have this list of keywords available and you know approximately how much traffic each of them is able to send to you, it’s time to test the competition. There are a number of different ways that you can do this and there are even some tools where you can plug the entire list and and have it do it automatically. As far as I’m concerned, however, there’s nothing like doing it by hand.
Once you have the best keywords that you want to focus on in a separate list, go to Google and begin searching for each of these phrases inside of quotes. This will help you to have an overall idea of what the competition is going to be as it will show you the websites that are optimized for that particular phrase. This can narrow down the list quite a bit and make it much more manageable.
One final thing that you’re going to need to do is to plug all of these keywords into your website and use them responsibly. One other thing that you want to do is to use the same keywords as link text whenever you are finding additional links into your website. When you do this, you will be able to rank well for many of the keyword phrases that you have chosen and you can also rank for a number of other key words because of the additional text on your website.
